Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
