The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG

The gritty universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division is being adapted into a tabletop role-playing experience. A partnership was established to develop a tabletop RPG that explores the franchise’s post-pandemic setting. The project has been announced, with a funding drive scheduled to launch in April of 2026.

"This project will bring the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and iconic world-building to the tabletop, offering fans a new way to experience The Division through immersive storytelling and player-driven missions," reads an announcement.

Initial offerings are set to feature a beginner's box, essential manuals, a Game Master screen, figurines, and various deluxe editions.

Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World

In this universe, a lethal pathogen called Green Poison was released in NYC, plunging the nation into turmoil. As the pandemic worsens, society crumbles and hostile groups emerge, turning the city into a warzone. To restore law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of undercover operatives. That’s where the agents enter the story.

Work on the RPG has been underway for about three years, and it is reportedly complete. The forthcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a preorder system to reach a broader audience, specifically in North America. Manufacturing is slated to begin immediately following the fundraiser, with deliveries expected for later in 2026.

An Innovative Tactical System: The GRIS System

An early look at the game's rules reveals it uses d10s exclusively through its proprietary GRIS system, encouraging a fast-paced and tactical style. Players leverage skills or traits to roll small dice pools, usually between one and five d10s.

  • Instead of adding results together, players select a single “resolution die” from the group.
  • This die is then measured against a target difficulty.
  • Rolling a natural 10 grants special effects, such as extra damage or boosted support.

Engagements Focus On Tactical Placement and Awareness

Battles stress placement and situational awareness, mirroring the video games. Elements like taking cover, height advantage, or visibility have a direct impact dice rolls. This system is designed to favor teamwork and clever tactics instead of raw numbers.

A Thematic Wound Mechanic

The way injuries is tracked introduces a interesting thematic twist. Operatives have a injury limit; sustaining too much damage weakens their effectiveness by lowering the size of their dice pool.

  1. At critical condition, an agent is downed, but they’re not unconscious.
  2. They can still crawl and take limited actions, emulating the "downed" state common to many shooter games.
  3. Any player in this state must consult a trauma table, potentially gaining persistent effects like shock or mobility-impairing wounds.

A Ready-to-Play Adventure

A free introductory rulebook will be released in the near future. It includes a pre-made starting adventure called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players lead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and must thwart an assault by the notorious Rikers faction, who have seized control of that Manhattan district. More specifics and the full range of offerings will be unveiled near the Kickstarter start date.
