Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few key changes:

  • Every squad includes only eight human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by real players award full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers looking for different methods to enjoy the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
