A senior Russian general has been killed following an blast in Moscow, according to official statements.

The attack took place on Monday morning when an explosive device concealed beneath a vehicle detonated, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' operational training department.

Investigators indicated that one theory under investigation points to the alleged involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. So far, Ukraine has not issued a comment.

Location of the Attack

Officials have been dispatched to the location, which is said to be in a southerly district of the city.

Media coverage indicate the blast happened in a car park close to a residential building.

Series of Incidents

Since the start of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a string of Russian military personnel have been attacked within Moscow.

This most recent event comes after other serious incidents, such as:

  • General Yaroslav Moskalik was died in a automobile blast in Moscow earlier this year.
  • General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a device hidden on a scooter was set off from a distance.

While a Ukrainian source earlier attributed Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such allegations are rarely officially confirmed as a matter of official stance.

The war has been marked by clandestine operations extending into the heart of the Russian capital.

The examination into General Sarvarov's death remains active.
